CI stands for Carbon Intensity. The score shows how much CO₂ emission (in grams per megajoule of energy) is linked to the sourcing of biomasses and the production and delivery of the biogas. The lower the CI-score, the smaller the climate footprint. For you as a customer, this provides full transparency in how many tons of CO₂ you are saving from the atmosphere. If your goal is CO₂ displacement, it is important to know the precise reduction in kilograms or tons compared to your company’s consumption of biogas.

Yes. RedCert is an independent, internationally recognized certification system. When biogas is RedCert-certified, it means the entire value chain (from biomass to production to sales) is monitored and documented according to EU requirements. It guarantees traceability, sustainability, and ensures that no “double selling” can occur within the system. RedCert also calculates the total CO₂ impact of the entire process, in compliance with EU’s RED II and III rules.

No. Certificate systems (RedCert, GoO, Nabisy, and POS) are specifically designed to prevent double selling. Every certified volume of biogas can only be sold once. When a certificate has been used, it is closed in the system. This guarantees that your renewable gas is not sold to anyone else.

Producers must meet strict sustainability and documentation requirements to supply gas that can be certified. Raw materials (e.g. manure, by-products), must be approved there must be full traceability across the value chain, and the production has to be audited annually by independent verifiers. Only when these requirements are fulfilled can the biogas receive RedCert certification. Producers are also obligated to submit annual reports to the Danish Energy Agency documenting biomass use; volumes, types and origin, to ensure compliance with national sustainability rules.
