Horsens Biogas Plant is a co-digestion plant producing biogas from manure and waste from one of Europe's biggest pig slaughterhouses situated close to the plant just north of Horsens. Horsens Bioenergi upgrades, in co-operation with Ørsted, the biogas to natural gas through a upgrading plant located on the same premises in Horsens.
In 2015-16 the plant was expanded with an 8.000 m³ digester and a gas upgrading plant. Furthermore, Daka Refood constructed, in one of the plant's halls, a pre-treatment plant for food waste, which is the first of its kind in Denmark. The packaging is separated so the food waste can be used in the biogas production. The annual capacity is 50.000 tonnes.
It is an arcitectually unique plant tailored to the natural surroundigs integrating it into the landscape. It is adjacent to highway E45 and will be visible from one of Denmark's most busy highways.
